The Lunar Bell
The moon rang like a bell.
Pulses of sound cascaded through the void, invisible and unheard by any Earthly apparatus. Waves of deep frequency sent microscopic debris hurtling through the cosmos and subtly altered the paths of significant asteroids once inexorably bearing towards the oblivious blue planet and all its inconsequential denizens.
For the interval of an hour, it rang―not one instant more or less. For the interval of one hour, the moon deflected all threats to the planet it was beholden to. Its dry seas quaked, and its dusty particles sought to ride the ringing tide free of its gravity until silence settled its surface anew.
Unacknowledged, undetected, unladen with gratitude, the lunar bell stilled. The guardian of the Earth returned to dormancy, awaiting the next impact to stir its tonal retribution.
